Twelve passengers escaped death on Sunday when a commercial bus went up in flames near the Onitsha beachhead, in Onitsha Anambra state.

The Nigerian Tribune determined that the incident, which took place around 1:02 PM, was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

It was also learned that the occupants of the bus bound for Onitsha from Warri escaped before the vehicle caught fire.

The Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the incident but estimated the time of the incident as 1:02 am and said no lives were lost.

“A Hummer bus is on fire inside the bridge. The fire brigade has been warned. All passengers are safe. The bus has been removed. There is a free flow of traffic on both parts of the highway,” he said.
