All Progressives Congress presidential campaign spokesman Festus Keyamo assured Nigerians on Saturday that the ruling party would be committed to theme-based campaigns for the 2023 presidential election.

This is as he clarified that despite the tactics of the opposition parties, the APC will stick to the issues and run a clean campaign for next year’s elections.

Keyamo, who is also the state minister for Labor and Productivity, gave the assurance on his Twitter page on Saturday in response to statements by Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organization spokesman Dino Melaye during a recent interview.

The minister said the APC would refrain from naming opposition parties and their presidential candidates, adding that an abusive campaign was a “sign of frustration”.

He wrote: ‘We will have a clean campaign. We will not use insulting words against our opponents and their spokespersons. We will refrain from mentioning those who think Nigerians look stupid with their gaffs as such.

“Abuse on a campaign trail is a sign of frustration. We’ll stick with the problems.”

The PUNCH had reported on July 7, 2022, that Keyamo said the election of APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in 2023 will “correct the June 12, 1993 election anomaly.”

The June 12, 1993 presidential election was won by the late philanthropist, Chief MKO Abiola. However, the election was negligently canceled by the military junta led by General Ibrahim Babangida (Retd).

Keyamo went down in history saying that with those currently competing for the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd), only the former governor of Lagos state was at the forefront of the battle for the June 12 mandate.
