The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said he has the backing of the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Ret.), to lead Nigeria in 2023.
He praised Buhari for his “loyalty and devotion” to the party, even though he expressed confidence in the “APC victory in the February 25 presidential election”.
This is stated in a statement from his media adviser Tunde Rahman on Saturday.
According to the statement, Tinubu was speaking when the party’s national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and members of the National Working Committee visited the candidate in Tinubu/Shettima’s campaign office, Abuja.
The statement quoted Tinubu as saying that Buhari had decided not to support any other candidate except those sponsored by the APC.
The APC presidential candidate said: “I like Mr President’s statement a few days ago. (He was) determined, concise, straightforward and courageous as the leader of our party. We have to commend the president for that statement (I thank him) for his commitment and loyalty to the party and for being a true party leader.”
