The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has been described as a broad institution composed of engineers from various fields such as electrical, electronics, avionics, computer science, broadcasting, communications, control, instrumentation, power and other related disciplines.
Explaining this, Olusegun Sholiyi said that one of the core goals of the organization is to provide a clear picture of NIEEE as an organization with the aim of continuing the initiatives that would move the institute and the country forward in the years to come.
Sholiyi said this in his welcome address during his inauguration as the First Chairman of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Epe/Ibeju-Lekki Chapter, which took place at Major General OA Akintade Auditorium, Nigerian Army Ordinance School, Epe Barracks, Epe, Lagos State, recently.
He expressed his gratitude to the Chair of the occasion and the National Chair of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Akan Michael.
He also thanked all NIEEE Chapters presidents; the guest speakers – Professor Aibinu Abiodun Musa, Vice-Chancellor, Summit University, Offa Kwara State and Professor Atanda Raji, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa; Special Guests of Honor – Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Dr Halilu Ahmad Shaba, Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja and Elders of NIEEE
He said: “The chapter of Epe/Ibeju-Lekki is undoubtedly an extension of the right arm of the Institute and we intend to start immediately by consolidating the success and achievements of the Institute both nationally and internationally. state level. To achieve this, we would maintain a transparent administration, in which all members are included and dissenting views are respected accordingly.
“I welcome you all to the inauguration ceremony of the first president of the NIEEE Epe/Ibeju-Lekki Chapter. This ceremony also includes the inauguration of 2022/2023 executive officers with a public lecture titled “Solving the National Socio-Economic Problems through Emerging Technologies and Innovations in Engineering”.
“I am thrilled to witness this special day in the annals of our great institution’s history at my inauguration as the inaugural president of the Epe/Ibeju-Lekki Chapter. My deepest gratitude for this rare privilege goes to the National President of the NIEEE, Akan Michael, the current President of the NIEEE Lagos Chapter, Olalekan O. Olabode and most importantly, the immediate former President of the Lagos Chapter, Bayo Olusodo. ”
“The responsibility that rests on my shoulders is not mine. I am indeed impressed and humbled by the privilege and honour, the sheer trust, confidence and respectful acceptance of serving the institution faithfully and diligently.
“Our Chapter is blessed because it is located in the new Lagos environment which consists of excellent engineering organizations such as Engineering and Construction Companies, Lagos State University Engineering Campus, the National Space Agency, Center for Space Transport and Propulsion, Food Processors, Trade and agro-related industry, then the large, Dangote Group of Companies – Fertilizer, Refinery, Lekki Free Trade Zone Development Company and others.
“These organizations either produce or hire qualified personnel in the fields of electricity, electronics, computer engineering to provide the required professional technical services for these organizations. The Epe/Ibeju-Lekki Chapter will be present to promote the implementation of the required policies and standards as enshrined in the NIEEE Constitution and Laws for the above organizations.
“We will also engage in robust interactions with other departments in Lagos State. This chapter will inspire our immediate community through conferences, technical workshops, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.”
