The Eze Ndigbo of Surulere Local Government of Lagos State, Eze Dr. Edwin Obi, has expressed the support of the Igbo community in the district for all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2023 general election.
The traditional ruler made the statement during a courtesy visit to his palace by the Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon (Dr.) Ahmed Apatira in the company of members of Ndigbo in Lagos APC led by the Council’s Supervisor for Health , Hon. Angel Chidi Okoro.
During the reception, Dr. Obi the council chief for the appointment of members of the Ndigbo community to his cabinet and party leadership positions.
He said: “We are very grateful to you for appointing our members to your cabinet. You are indeed a detribalized politician and administrator.
“We appreciate you for your practical demonstration of a good and compliant leader. The impact of your administration is loud enough for the deaf to hear and for the blind to see.
“Lagos is our home, but you’ve made it more habitable for all of us with ease. That is why we must work together to ensure the party’s victory in the 2023 elections.
“The Igbo community in Surulere Local Government fully supports the presidential ambition of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he is the most marketable of all the candidates aspiring to the exalted office of the president.
“Every person is a politician. We are also politicians and we have been part of Lagos politics, so we will continue to support you when you call on us.”
The traditional ruler begged the council chief not to give in to his support of the Ndigbo community in the affairs of his administration.
dr. Apatira responded, revealing that there is no faction in APC in Itire-Ikate, while also reiterating his commitment to an all-encompassing government.
He said: “We are stronger in unity and that is why we try to include as many representatives of all ethnic groups in the community as possible and represent them in our cabinet.
“We are one in Lagos APC. We are one in Itire-Ikate. I am totally against faction in any form, I lead an all-embracing government.
“I want to appeal to the Ndigbo community to embrace peace and work diligently for the success of our great party, the APC in 2023.
“On behalf of the good people of Itire-ikate Local Council Development Area, I am happy to be here with you as a member of one big family.
Some of your members were part of the previous administration at various cadres, while some are also part of the current administration, so in the future we need all hands on deck as their experiences cannot be washed away.
We will make sure the dividends of democracy come to every nook and cranny of the communities and as I said Nigeria is one, Surulere is just a microcosmic of what the country is like whether you are a Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba you are a Nigerian.
“If you’re in this community, the benefits of democracy should be given to everyone regardless of race, tribe or race, that’s the government I lead and that’s the community I want to build so that those who come after us will be proud of us. could be,” he concluded.
