A hotelier, Ogbonnaya Nwadibia, and three unidentified guests were reportedly shot dead by gunmen who raided the Galaxy Hotel in the Isu community, in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking to our correspondent on Sunday, a resident of the area, Igwe Nwaokorie, said the incident happened on Friday evening, adding that the armed suspects were riding motorcycles to the scene of the incident.
Nwaokorie said that when the suspects arrived at the hotel, they barged into the property and started firing indiscriminately, adding that the hotelier and his guests were killed.
He said: “The incident took place on Friday, August 26 at night. The armed suspects arrived on motorcycles and about three of them entered the hotel.
“Before we knew what was going on, we heard gunshots that lasted for several minutes. After their departure, three people were found dead, including the owner of the hotel.”
PUNCH Metro We concluded that the incident, which caused tensions in the area, had resulted in residents staying indoors from 5pm onwards and businessmen and women in the community to close early for fear of further attacks.
State Police Public Relations Officer SP Chris Anyanwu confirmed the incident to our correspondent when contacted on Sunday.
However, Anyanwu noted that the command did not yet have all the details of the incident.
“Yes, the command has heard of the incident, but we have not been given full details of what actually happened,” said Anyanwu.
