Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday evening urged Lagosians to ignore reports of an imminent attack on Lagos, saying the state government and security officers were aware of the situation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave this assurance during a press conference he addressed at the State House, Marina, after a security meeting with security officers, including the Nigerian Police, Navy, Army, Customs and Civil Defense.
The governor said he had read some news on social media about an imminent attack on Lagos, but was quick to urge the Lagosians to remain calm and go about their normal business.
According to him, his government devised strategies and interventions that ensured the Lagosians that security personnel took responsibility for ensuring that security in the state was not compromised.
“Over the past few days or weeks, there has been a lot of social media news and information about the threat of imminent attacks on Lagos. I have had daily security communications with my security officers.
“I want to assure our citizens that we are on top of it. We felt there was a need for this important comprehensive security meeting,” he said.
“During the meeting, we received a comprehensive report on the current security situation in the state. We have devised strategies and interventions, but I want to assure our people that our security people take their responsibility to make sure that the security in the state is not compromised.
“Our advice to our citizens is to obey the law and perform their lawful duties and speak up when they see something. Safety is everyone’s duty. They must use all available security communications.
“We want to assure you that we are not ignorant of all the concerns circulating. The security agents have given every guarantee to keep Lagos safe for everyone,” he assured.
