I am a 50 year old civil servant. I stopped drinking coffee a few years ago for medical reasons. However, I just read in a magazine that coffee is good for the heart. Please advise me as I like to drink coffee.

According to new research, drinking 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day, including ground, instant or decaffeinated coffee, is associated with a significant reduction in new cardiovascular disease (CVD) and death, compared to avoiding coffee. While the experts are not asking doctors to start prescribing coffee to patients, they believe that the majority who love coffee can be encouraged to take a few cups a day. That said, it’s still important that you discuss with your doctor to determine if the medical condition that prevented you from drinking coffee is still relevant.
