Former President Goodluck Jonathan joined benefactors on Wednesday to celebrate the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Reverend Matthew Kukah, at his 70th birthday ceremony in Abuja.

The event was attended by key political actors for the 2023 elections, including All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; his running mate, Kashim Shettima; the Labor Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and many others.

Jonathan shared photos of himself at the event, praising Kukah on his Facebook page for “working diligently to help the nation regain its soul”.

Jonathan said: “Bishop Kukah comes from a long tradition of productive engagement with the Nigerian state, always using the experience of his considerable fame, international reach, academic prowess and sense of justice to make society conscientious.

“If God blesses you with great intelligence and erudition, as He did in the case of Bishop Kukah, the Almighty also gives you the special commission to be a key factor in the effort to lead your country to greatness.

“It is therefore not surprising that Bishop Kukah, in addition to serving in God’s Vineyard to win souls and make disciples, has worked fervently to help the nation reclaim its soul, reform its politics, and make it work better for the general population of our population.

“I wish Bishop Kukah a happy 70th birthday and pray to God to grant him a longer life in good health and the strength to continue his crusade for a just and functional human society.”
