Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has given contractors building and refurbishing schools in the state a week to mobilize to sites or withdraw their contacts.

A statement from the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Gana Ahmed, in Lafia Sunday, quoted the director, spatial planning, Muhammad Shuaibu Lakpa, as having issued the warning.

The affected contractors were the ones handling the contracts for UBE 2020/2021 intervention, according to the statement.

The board expressed its dismay at the contractors’ failure to resume work at the sites long after the jobs were awarded, while giving them a week from Monday (today) to do so, otherwise they should be fined.

The board also warned contractors against shoddy work and insisted that the contract be executed according to specifications and timeline.

“The council has noted that some contractors who recently awarded contracts for the 2020/2021 UBE intervention have not resumed at the sites since the contracts were awarded.

“They must move to locations immediately and deliver quality work and on time or consider their contracts forfeited,” it said.

It said the current government was determined to improve the level of education, which has been considered the key ingredient in the fight against poverty in the state.
