The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday rejected speculation that presidential flag bearer Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and national party chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu are at odds over his choice of Governor Simon Lalong and Festus Keyamo as director generals. and spokesperson for the APC presidential campaign.
There have been many reports in the past two weeks of a palpable cold war between Tinubu and Adamu that, secretariat sources said, was not notified before the flag bearer made the formal announcement.
The development comes a week after deputy director of the APC presidential campaign organization, Hanatu Musawa, described the alleged plot to remove the chairman from office as mere social media conversations.
Musawa, who provided the clarification when she appeared on Politics Today on Channels Televisionannounced that Adamu still commands the respect of the NWC and members of the National Executive Council.
Her optimism comes ahead of the NEC meeting with the NWC members, which political experts predicted could decide the fate of the APC national chairman.
APC’s deputy national organizing secretary, Nze Duru, addressed journalists at the secretariat on Tuesday evening, dismissing the rumor of a rift between Adamu and the presidential candidate.
This is even as he confirmed that the election of Governor Simon Lalong and Festus Keyamo in the presidential campaign council was welcomed by the leadership of the APC.
Duru also promised that the full list of campaign council members would be revealed before the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the campaign flag.
He said: “There is no power struggle over positions. None of that has happened and the party and the candidate are working together. But it is important to say that we agreed on DG and spokesman.
“The governors will control the structures in the zones. The party cannot be excluded and it will not even exclude anyone. We will have an embracing and comprehensive campaign council. There is no disagreement anywhere. More importantly, the party chairman agreed on the issue of DG and spokesman.
“Before the INEC flag on September 28, all other positions will be revealed. The chairman leads the conversation.”
