Nigeria’s customs agency, Ogun 1 Area Command, announced on Tuesday that it has seized two trucks belonging to the Dangote group of companies carrying 303 smuggled bags of rice in different parts of the state.

The command added that it had intercepted 3154 bags of foreign rice and said it generated more than N13 million in August from import duties and petroleum product auctions.

NCS’s controller in the state, Bamidele Makinde, said this during a press conference in the state’s Idi-Iroko area.

Makinde said the cumulative Duty Paid Value for all repossessions in August was over N300 million.

He said, ‘A truck with the Lagos State registration number. EKY 971 YE, belonging to the Dangote group of companies, loaded with 75 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50 kg each concealed with 900 bags of Dangote cement, was intercepted on Sunday 21 August along Ibeshe, Yewa-North Local Government Area of ​​​​Ogun State. , 2022.

“Another Dangote truck with Kano State registration no. BCG 531 XA loaded with 288 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice of 50 kg each concealed with some bags of Dangote cement along Lafenwa, Abeokuta axis, Ogun State, on Aug. 23, 2022.

“Other items seized include 15 used compressors; 8 units used vehicle; 6 motorcycle units; 153 bails and 68 bags of used cloths; 79 bags of used shoes; 111 boxes and 220 pieces of foreign wines; 301 used tires, 18,100 liters of PMS; 310 boxes of frozen poultry products and 16 bags of used bags.”

He said: “During the assessment period, the command generated a total of thirteen million eight hundred and forty-eight thousand, three hundred seventy naira, zero kobos (N13,848,370) only from import duties and auction sales of petroleum products intercepted during anti-smuggling operations.

“The cumulative value for all seizures was N311,924,551.92.”

Makinde begged Nigerians to cooperate with the NCS by trading in legit companies.

The Comptroller assured legitimate business communities of the maximum operation of the Trade Facilitation Command.
