Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday urged party members to begin elections next year.

The former two-time governor of Edo state debunked claims at a stakeholder meeting in Benin that he supported a candidate for the 2024 gubernatorial election in the state, stating that he has learned his lesson.

Oshiomhole, the APC senator’s candidate in Edo North, said local government party leaders have an important role to play in the upcoming elections, and called on them to go to their various local governments, hold meetings and identify their candidates. to sell to voters on the grass root.

He also called on disadvantaged members to follow him when he was ousted as party leader after two years.

He said: “The primaries are over and the candidates have come forward. We need to put aside our differences that came in the primaries and line up behind our candidates, starting with our presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, for two-times governor of Lagos and the party’s national leader.

“The disadvantaged members of the party should learn from my act of political tolerance when I was removed from office as the party’s national chairman. I had the opportunity to redress, which would have brought the party congress to a standstill, but I didn’t.

“I have not and will not support anyone for the governor’s election. I have learned from my mistakes. I also did not ask anyone to resign or ask anyone to perform. The only person I asked to step down was my younger brother and this is because two Oshiomholes can’t get on the ballot.

“In the past, when I asked people to step down, they did and they have never forgiven me, while those who performed have done nothing to show that the faith was in them.”

Speaking about the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, he urged Nigerians not to be misled by what other presidential candidates from other parties are saying, noting that Tinubu is a tolerant Nigerian who has no ambition to to make Nigeria an Islamic country.

Oshiomhole said: “We need to explain to people about the APC ticket because there has been deliberate misinformation and an attempt to make the debate personal rather than issue-based.

“The problem is that we have to vote for a person who will develop the country. Those who dwell on the Muslim-Muslim ticket do so to distract people from the big problems. If they ask for your vote, ask them to show you what they’ve done to earn your vote.

“Tinubu has not made Islam compulsory for his wife, who is a senator and pastor. His children are also Christians and Muslims. Is there a better example of religious tolerance?

“So the Muslim-Muslim ticket is not the problem today. You have unemployed Christian youth who are hungry and we have unemployed Muslim youth who are hungry. Does it matter who rules?
The one that will develop Nigeria that I think should be the problems and all these sentiments are meant to remove problems from the debate.
