There was embarrassment at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday when a group of youth loyal to presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu enlisted security agents in a free-for-all over plot to prevent the election of the National Association. to influence. of the Nigerian students by some ‘elements’ allegedly sponsored by the party’s national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

The row, which took place on the eve of the election to swear in new NANS executives before Thursday, saw offended students and young party members gather at the entrance to the secretariat in protest.

The protest was led by Segun Dada, one of the former aspirants who stepped down for current APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel.

Dada is said to have arrived at the secretariat about the youth leader’s directive to file a complaint at the NWC meeting about how some elements suspected of being part of the opposition People’s Democratic Party are planning the NANS to hijack Thursday’s elections.

However, the young APC member and his ‘boys’ met fierce resistance from the armed guards of the National Secretariat.

To disperse the protesters, security details fired several canisters of tear gas into the crowd; an action that led to a stampede where some students tried to break in.

The rowdiness forced the officers to bolster security with extra men and use force.

A source within the secretariat told our correspondent that the security details acted on the directive of the national chairman of the APC not to allow NANS members access, adding that the students tried to disrupt a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee, it was still going on.

He said: “Dada’s attempt and desperation to make his way with his delegation led the police to use tear gas on him and others, infuriating them, making the situation tumultuous.

“The surprising thing is that Dada is no stranger to the secretariat, because he has worked here for a number of years. But he wasn’t diplomatic in handling the situation either way, or it wouldn’t have turned into using several cans of tear gas to disperse them.

“Yes, Dada had a real mission to inform the leadership about how PDP elements in APC hijacked the election, as indicated by the youth leader.

“But what we don’t understand was why he came with those big guys who were fighting the security guards. It was bad that the Chief Security Officer of the party was being harassed by those guys who had come with Dada.”

At the time the story was submitted, the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, could not be reached for comment.

Wednesday’s spat has further fueled the alleged cold war between Tinubu and the party’s national chairman, a claim rejected by the former governor’s camp.

Commenting on the report, Bayo Onanuga, director of Media and Communications for the Tinubu campaign organization, said he has no knowledge of the incident and cannot report directly on it.

However, he reiterated that his director does not have any break with Adamu.
