Nigerian army personnel have killed two members of the Eastern Security Network, the militant wing of the indigenous people of Biafra.

The ESN members were about to raid communities in Orsu Ihitte Ukwa and Ihitte Nansa in Imo state.

According to a statement from the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gene. Onyema Nwachukwu, the troops killed the ESN members as they were about to use their rocket launchers on the troops.

He added that the operations were conducted in conjunction with the Nigerian Navy, Air Force and other security agents in the state.

The statement read in part: “Troops from the headquarters of the 82nd Division Nigerian Army, comprising troops from the 34th Artillery Brigade, along with troops from the Nigerian Navy, Air Force and other security forces, on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, attacked two fighters of the banned indigenous population of Biafra and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network along the Eke Ututu – Ihitte Nansa road in the Orsu Local Government Area of ​​Imo State.

“The troops encountered the dissidents during an assault operation around the general area of ​​Orsu Ihitte Ukwa and Ihitte Nansa.

The neutralized members were in position to launch one of their prepared rocket launchers when they were attacked and knocked out by the vigilant forces.”

He added that explosives detonated by the criminals destroyed some shops in the market.

“The intrepid troops were unharmed as improvised explosive devices deployed by the irredentists exploded in Eke Ututu market, destroying some shops in the market.

“Eke Ututu’s market has become a flashpoint of late as dissidents often ambush troops with explosives and firearms from within and around the market, while troops routinely patrol.

Following the incident, the Explosive Ordnance Device team recovered several improvised explosive devices along the road, as well as locally manufactured rocket launchers,” the statement added.
