Thrilling football play as Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills collapses after a tackle

Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills, fell on the field, required CPR, and was then transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he is currently listed in serious condition, according to the NFL, which called off the Monday night game between Buffalo and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hamlin was down and being assisted by athletic trainers after collapsing following a tackle, and other Bills and Bengals players crowded around him in considerable concern.

During the first quarter, Bengals receiver Tee Higgins was rushing upfield after a catch when they collided, resulting in Damar Hamlin taking a significant blow to the chest area. Immediately after the play, Hamlin stood up before passing out.

On-field CPR was administered to Hamlin, according to reporters at the stadium. From the moment Hamlin fell to the ground until he was carried off the field, more than 15 minutes had passed.

Without providing an immediate update on whether or when the game would be played, ESPN announced on the broadcast a little after 10 p.m. ET that it had been suspended for the evening.

In a statement they released, the NFL mentioned that Hamlin was in critical condition at a nearby hospital.

In an update, Jordon Rooney, who identified himself as Hamlin’s marketing representative, stated that Hamlin’s vital signs were “back to normal” and that he had been put to sleep so that a breathing tube could be inserted down his throat.

Josh Allen, the quarterback, tweeted a request for prayers for Hamlin.

Both coaches spoke with the officials on the field following the injury. More than 20 minutes after Damar Hamlin passed out, the game was reportedly temporarily paused at around 9:17 p.m.

Back at their locker rooms, the two teams went. The game was called off less than an hour later when ESPN aired video of Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and Bills head coach Sean McDermott switching off on cell phone conversations outside of the locker rooms under the stadium.

Troy Vincent, executive vice president of football operations for the NFL, stated during a conference call that the league was considering suspending the game because it could “see the traumatization” among the players and coaches.

According to Vincent, the Bills intended to head back to Buffalo, yet other players stayed behind to be close to Hamlin.

It was a scary situation. ESPN featured a number of players, including Allen, who were visibly upset by what they had witnessed. Stefon Diggs, a receiver with the Bills, was in tears on the field. Later, he reportedly took an Uber to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where Hamlin is receiving treatment, according to ESPN’s Coley Harvey.

On the field arrived an ambulance. Hamlin reportedly underwent CPR on the field, according to reporters, including ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters. Hamlin was finally loaded into the ambulance after a protracted wait and placement on a backboard. The Bills knelt in prayer as the ambulance departed the field.

On the NFL Radio broadcast, a gloomy Kurt Warner observed, “I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Pittsburgh native Damar Hamlin, 24, was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. He started for the Bills in Week 3 of this year, and he has done so ever since.
