The National Youth Service Corps said on Saturday that corps members were not allowed to participate in party politics.

The NYSC’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa, made the announcement in a statement in Abuja in response to a social media campaign poster showing some ladies in NYSC uniform claiming to be corps members and a support political party.

Megwa said the message on the poster violated the policy of the scheme that banned police officers from taking an interest in partisan politics.

He therefore urged the public to ignore the information on the poster, while urging force members to abide by the policies of the scheme.

“In addition, it is a direct attack on the integrity of the NYSC, which is one of the electoral umpires and has been cooperating with the Independent National Electoral Commission in conducting elections in Nigeria since 2008. The management hereby reiterates that the settlement remains apolitical, and neutral without any form of attachment to a political party.

“The state of the scheme is absolutely at odds with the fraudulent message conveyed by the poster,” he was quoted as saying by the Nigeria News Agency as said.
