Zamfara State Police Command has paraded a 41-year-old retired army corporal, Saidu Lawal, with Ak47, Ak49 and 500 hundred rounds of live ammunition across the state.

The suspect is also said to help a notorious bandit leader Dogo Hamza who terrorized the inhabitants of Zamfara and neighboring states.

Police PR officer SP Mohammed Shehu told reporters at the Gusau Police Command on Wednesday evening that the suspect served with the Nigerian Army’s 73rd Battalion Battalion, the Janguza Kano Barracks, before his retirement in 2021.

“On behalf of the Commissioner of the Zamfara State Command, CP Kolo Yusuf psc, I welcome you to our press conference here at Police Command Gusau headquarters, where we will parade a notorious kidnapper who specializes in armed robbery, kidnapping, gun smuggling and other heinous crimes.”

He revealed that the suspect has long been disrupting the peace and security of Zamfara state and the neighboring states of Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Kebbi and Sokoto.

“On August 27, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Police Tactical/Escort Team, attached to Zamfara State Police Command Commissioner, CP Kolo Yusuf psc, acted on actionable information leading to the arrest of the suspect who was ex-service personnel of the Nigerian army confirmed 73 Battalion Janguza Army Barracks Kano.

“The suspect was intercepted with a Pontiac Vibe vehicle with registration number KRD 686 CY Lagos, passing Abuja-Kaduna on the way to Zamfara State.”

According to the police, a spokesperson searched the spot and the documents were found in his possession.

Recovered exhibits include; 1 AK-47 Rifle Strut No. Q971987 ,1 AK-49 Rifle Strut No. 34-7094, 200 7.6mm rounds of live ammunition, 501 7.62X51mm rounds of GPMG live ammunition and 8 empty magazines.

“During the interrogation, the accused confessed that he would transfer the said documents from Loko LGA in Nasarawa state to his client a Dogo Hamza ‘M’ from Bacha village in Tsafe LGA in Zamfara state.

“The accused further confessed that he had previously delivered the same shipment to his other customers in Kaduna, Katsina, Niger and Kebbi respectively.”

Police insisted a discreet investigation is underway to arrest his partners for this dastardly crime.
