The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the southwest has been overwhelmed by the leadership crisis between former Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The party’s zonal executive committee in the region, which called on the two gladiators to call on their supporters to sheath their swords, noted growing concerns that the rift could affect APC’s fate if allowed to continue to exist after the build-up until the elections of 2023.

In a statement issued and signed by Southwest National Vice President/Chairman, Hon. Isaacs Kekemeke said the tone of discord between the two leaders of the party in the state stemmed from their love and development for the state.

Kekemeke said that the party in the zone cannot afford any crisis in any of the six states of the region during this particular period, to build a united home and to have the victory for the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023. election.

However, he called on the two leaders to cease fire as the party leadership has taken steps to ensure that the rift between the two APC leaders in the state is resolved amicably.

“The zonal executive committee of the All Progressives Congress in the Southwest has noticed the brewing misunderstanding between some respected leaders/elders of our party in Ogun State.

“We admit that misunderstandings and arguments are an essentially unavoidable part of life and of human organizations.

“However, it must be understood by all party members that the Southwest Zone cannot afford any form of dispute; not in this day and age when all hands on deck are needed to secure a resounding electoral victory for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all other party candidates in the Zone in the upcoming 2023 general election.”

“The party in the zone has already taken steps to ensure that this family misunderstanding and other misunderstandings elsewhere in the Southwest are amicably resolved.

“I appeal to their Excellencies: Governor Abiodun and Senator Amosun, in the name of God and in the interest of the party in the zone, sheath their swords and instruct their supporters to stop laying down public statements that will further divide the party in Ogun. state and in the zone.

“I urge all party believers in the state to stand firm, rest assured, our party will emerge stronger and better”

Senator Amosu and Governor Abiodun were engaged in a war of words with Amosun, claiming that his successor had been smuggled into office and had to be removed, because those involved in the rigging confessed to him and apologized to him.

But Governor Abiodun, in a quick response, stated that he would not join his predecessor to avoid distraction from someone who has a problem with self-deception, saying that Ogun State is no one’s father’s legacy.
